workshop details: in this workshop, you’ll learn the art of sashiko stitching—a traditional japanese technique used for both repair and decorative embellishment. led by tamara, the face behind smallwood studios, this session will guide you through the process of transforming your denim, cotton, or linen piece (any non-stretch woven fabric) with beautiful hand-stitching.

each participant will receive a take-home kit with everything needed to continue stitching after class, including:

  • a properly sized needle
  • your choice of sashiko thread color
  • precision snips (scissors)
  • fabric scraps from rifle paper co. and solid fabrics for patching
  • fusible interfacing for reinforcement

during the workshop, you’ll have access to sashiko stencils, thimbles, chalk pencils, and washable pens to design your stitches. tamara will teach the foundational techniques, then provide one-on-one guidance to help bring your project to life. an ironing station will be available for those incorporating interfacing.
