the basics about basic.

humans have a lot more power than we give ourselves credit for. every time we speak, every time we vote, every time we make a purchase...we have the power to make significant impact. buying local, shopping small, and supporting farmer’s markets are all ways in which we help nurture and guide a responsible path towards the future. every decision is an opportunity to dobetter. as consumers, it is our job to do our consuming with accountability. and i know i know, we’re just over here selling clothes right? we always could be i guess, but that isn’t it for us.

the guiding goal of basic. is to empower conscious consumption through education and ethically-made apparel.
.
sustainable fashion, ethically-made fashion, eco fashion...there are a lot of terms that describe the unique niches of the fashion revolution taking place in the garment industry right now. from my point of view, all these phrases fall under an overarching umbrella of creating an ethical and transparent supply chain. slow fashion is characterized as designing, creating, and purchasing garments for quality, longevity, and social responsibility. slow fashion encourages deliberate, controlled production schedules, fair wages, safe working conditions, lower carbon footprints, waste reduction, accountability, and intention. what generally results from this level of attention to detail are products that a brand can feel proud producing and we can feel honorable buying.
.
we believe in quality over quantity. we live in a time of mass over-consumption and excess, and the fashion industry is a big part of that. if we change the way we think about clothing (and all consumer goods, really) and purchase durable, well-made garments, the need for replacements will diminish. it will save money in the long run, and you’ll be bettering the life of the hands that made your shirt in the process.
.
.
at the core of our beliefs is the notion that the basic. rights of all individuals should be respected and honored.

thank you for helping us support brands who value the craft over the coin.
